Please query me here: https://QueryManager.com/morganhughes Please note that for all of the below, I'm looking for marginalized voices and characters. Update 1/9/2026 – I'm looking to focus my children's + NA list in 2026. I'd love to find a great MG Fantasy with series potential and am still on the hunt for mysteries in MG and YA. I'm most open in the NA category, but there should be a romance b plot at least. While I will still consider Adult romance, I am looking for high concept contemporary (with maybe a magical/speculative element). I would love to find something that emotionally breaks me and puts me back together! Picture Books - Sweet, lyrical stories - Smart (but age appropriate) humor - Author/illustrator Middle Grade - Grounded, accessible fantasy - Mysteries - Contemporary stories focused on different types of relationships (mother/daughter, sisters, friends, etc) - Voicey narratives that feel authentic - Lower MG Chapter Books - Anything you can comp to THE UNDERLAND CHRONICLES by Suzanne Collins or the CHARLIE BONE series by Jenny Nimmo - For MG graphic novels, I'd love to see a mystery or heist! Young Adult (or crossover) - Accessible fantasy / romantasy - Love triangles!! - Thriller / mysteries with unique settings - Would love a good whodunnit, Clue-style murder mystery - Something with puzzles that the reader can try to solve like THE INHERITANCE GAMES - Villain POV (think Klaus from The Originals) - Swoony YA romances with a unique hook - For YA graphic novels, a fantasy / dark academia story would be intriguing! New Adult - Contemporary Romance or Romantasy (on a limited basis) - Campus settings / college stories - Travel / wanderlust – Study Abroad college romance Adult - Romantasy (on a limited basis. I tend to pick up more grounded or lite fantasy rather than high fantasy. Something more crossover than true adult…) - Light-hearted rom-coms, sweeping contemporary romances with unique hooks - Paranormal romance - Forbidden love - Fresh conflicts and fresh takes on tropes - Book Club Fiction with high concepts - Travel / wanderlust I am not a good fit for: - Historical Romance - Heavy Science Fiction (ex: space operas, military, aliens) - Non-Fiction - Animal deaths
